One thing that has always been on my bucket list and I always for some reason forget to do it whenever I'm in Japan is go see a sumo match. And again, this time, completely forgot. But there is a sumo restaurant I can eat at, so I'll go do that. Hopefully, they can let me eat by myself. This is actually a sumo place near here, this neighborhood I'm in right now, that you can watch the match and eat dinner. That place is completely booked up. So this restaurant is run by a former sumo wrestler. How cool is this? So the first thing they bring over is a little stewed chicken drumstick with looks like some radish. And this is such a cool place. And the chef there, he used to be a sumo wrestler. And when you're at a restaurant like this, you got to get their signature, which is the chanko nabe. Chanko, sumo wrestler food, nabe, just hot pot. So sumo wrestler food in a hot pot. And this stuff is usually pretty healthy, full of vegetables, tofu. After a day of burgers and pizza and ice cream, I I this is exactly what I feel like I need right now. What's interesting about sumo food is that the protein is usually chicken because they don't like to use any animals that walk on four legs because when you're on all fours in sumo wrestling, you lose. So they don't want that. That's why stewed chicken leg. I feel like as as my old age catches up with me, sometimes at night, you just want something like nice and soothing. Oh man, this thing is just full of good stuff. Fresh vegetables, fresh tofu, tons of mushrooms, greens. All right, it looks like there is pork in here. So slices of pork and chicken in here. Anyway, too late to worry about a superstition. There is pork in here, which I'm happy about. Always good to see pork. And this thing does take some time to cook. But once it does, it is absolutely delicious. I've had this once before, not here, but I remember it being super good. And I am kind of happy that this version looks like, yeah, it's a one-person version. And I did not know how big this was going to be. It's like the only thing on the menu. I see that the table next to me, there's four of them, their pot is way bigger. I think this is the one-person or maybe two-person version. Look at the little timer they gave me. When this timer is done, the hot pot is ready. So this is the sauce that they give you for the nabe. Add some sauce. Oh man, this thing is just full of good stuff. Fresh vegetables, fresh tofu, tons of mushrooms. All right, try it on a day like this when I've been going real heavy all day. Oh, tastes so good. Oishi. Arigato gozaimasu. First of all, this vegetable tastes like they just got it from their garden out back. Also, this dipping sauce is insanity. This dipping sauce tastes so freaking good. There's definitely a lot of bonito in here. This is such a umami filled dipping sauce. Oh, tastes amazing. Seriously, I usually dunk on vegetables, but this is incredible. Cabbage is good. Love the mushrooms. I kind of wish I got a bigger pot. I remember the first time I had sumo food, I think I got a much bigger pot. I could have done that this time too. The vegetables and the dipping sauce, umami heaven. Let's try this. Letting it set till my hot pot is ready. Little appetizer radish. Oh, so much flavor, man. This is exactly what my stomach needed tonight. Tofu is good. Fresh vegetables and this dipping sauce is unreal. I can't believe I've never had this dipping sauce before. Has a bonito flakes in here. I wish all the hot pot places would have this dipping sauce. Seriously, there's just so much beautiful looking veggies in here. Usually beautiful vegetables not words I put in the same sentence, but this is actually beautiful vegetables. This is already something I would recommend anybody to come and try. I wouldn't call vegetable delicious unless it's really delicious. And it's freaking delicious here. This is so much better than a lot of the shabu places I've been to. Like it tastes healthy. At the same time, it's freaking delicious. I can't believe nobody's here. It's like me and one other table and they're leaving. This is also like a like a drinking place, like a bar. I would highly recommend if you're like shabu, which pretty much everybody does, give this place a try. Wow. I'll eat here every day. This is so healthy tasting and good tasting, which is hard to find. Yeah, I really do feel like at my old age, especially at night. I mean, I can go heavy in the daytime, early in the morning, but at night, like especially right before I go to sleep or something, I want something like this. Like relatively light and just really comforting for my stomach. Slice of pork belly in here. And big slices of pork in here. Look at that. No joke. I could eat their big pot. I'm looking over at them, their bigger pot. I could eat in that. I'd come back tomorrow and get this again. I'll even go as far to say, this is one of my favorite meals in Japan on this trip. It's not something I eat a lot, you know, it's not like ramen or something else I eat all the time. And the flavor is definitely fresh and out there. And I love bonito and I love anything with tons of umami, which this thing has. Chicken meatballs. Oh, some ginger in here. Oh. Seriously, you go to a lot of shabu places in Japan. Dipping sauce a little boring, maybe. I've been to shabu places where it's cooked in water with a little kombu, which is fine. Not a lot of flavor. This is a lot of flavor. I am so glad I came here tonight. Put the sauce in the soup. Yeah. Okay. That's the finishing move right there. They said put the put the sauce in the soup. Yeah. One. So they're saying just put a scoop in first and test the flavor. If I like it, add some more. Wow. This tastes amazing. See, I didn't touch the umami. It's just like vegetable meat soup. One of the best soups you'll find anywhere. Also, they're so nice here. This is 100% like a super local place. They apologize that the menu's only in Japanese, which is fine. Definitely feel good after that.
